I had a very thick head of long hair up until recently. I am 43 years old and have NEVER had this before. This past summer I started twisting and pulling my hair out. I have Tourettes Syndrome and mild OCD issues but this is by far the most annoying! Why all of a sudden after all these years would this attack me now??? Yes, I have had my share of stress this year but I've had plenty of stress in the past as well. My hair is very fine now and sticks out all over the place because some other pieces have broken off mid way through as I was ripping my hair off in two or three stand bundles. Also, as it grows in it sticks up and out through the rest. Anyone else experience this at such a late age? I should also mention that I HAVE been picking my skin since I was young and still do. I see that the two are often linked in some websites I've some across. Thanks so much, Sonia

Hey! New to this site, but also searching for a cure-all. I'm 31 and have been dealing with this for 22 yrs. So far, Prozac, lexapro, and Inositol have been prescribed. The latter of the 3 is the latest one and seems to be the most effective. Prozac and Lexapro seemed to make it worse. If anyone has tried anything in trial and error, please share. I will keep in touch about progress or failure.

Wow... I'm so... shocked. I was diagnosed with Trich years ago. My doctor, at the time, said it was a relatively rare condition. I had no idea there were so many people like me. I don't feel so... freakish or alone anymore! It's a good feeling. Anyway, I know this comment has nothing to do with this blog. But, I was looking up hair-growth treatments and stumbled upon this. I had to say something.

Please tell me what these treatments are. Is there something I can do on my own to stop? Like everyone these days I don't have health insurance & can't afford a doctor. I read that one of the drugs used for Trich is Paxil. I am on Paxil for Social Anxiety Disorder and since I've been on it my Trich has been worse!

I am a hairstylist who for the first time cut the hair of a client struggling with this disorder. I specialize in working with fine hair so I felt I was qualified and able to work this hair. I felt the consultation was clear and I proceeded. I truly felt the look was positive one. Unfortunately she saw one of her scars and become tense. Loved the color service. Tipped well. Got home and the complete opposite reaction occured. I was gobbstruck. She felt I purposely sabotaged her look? Is this reaction normal or did I really not pay attention to this client? She has been to 520 other stylists in my salon and was not pleased.
